Paper Curl Turtle

Today's Craft: Paper Curl Turtle

Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need colorful construction paper, scissors, a pencil, and glue.

To begin cut a large or small turtle shape, using the template provided. Next cut out a lot small thin (about 1/4 inch wide and a few inches long) strips of colored paper.

Take one of the strips and wrap it tightly around your pencil to curl it. Unwrap, dip the edges in glue and add it to your turtle shell. Keep repeating this process until your turtle's shell is covered and you have a delightfully dimensional turtle.

Now decorate the rest of your turtle with your markers or crayons.

Piano Soap

Today's Craft: Piano Soap

Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need a rectangular bar of soap, a knife to carve the soap, three pins with large heads for legs.

Carve the soap so it curves like a grand piano and then insert the pins in the underside to make piano legs.

Next carve the soap in half at the large end to create a row of piano keys and then add details with a sharp pointed stick.

Your Very Own Dalmation

Today's Craft: Your Very Own Dalmation

Cut out a great white dog using the template provided.

If you want to create a picture, select a colored background piece of paper to attach him to and either glue or tape him to it.

If you want a pup with legs that move cut out your dog using the same template but cut out the bottom or the dog smooth, cut out four dog legs and attach them to your pup with brass fasteners.

Next cut out a variety of black dog spots and decorate your Dalmation!

Cool Crystal Painting

Today's Craft: Cool Crystal Painting

Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need watercolors, a paintbrush, a paintbrush, some plastic wrap, water, and some drawing paper or watercolor paper.

You can also try the same process with foil, bubble wrap, or wax paper.

To begin take a piece of paper and cover it with water with your brush. Now add all different colors until your paper is covered with lots of colorful paint.

Now, crumple up a piece of plastic wrap, (or bubble paper or foil, or wax paper) and place it down on top of your paper so it bunches up and cover it.

Now leave your creation to dry over night. When you remove the plastic wrap in the morning, you will have a great crystal painting.

Very Cool Viking Helmets

Today's Craft: Very Cool Viking Helmets

Craft Project Directions:
Cut a strip of poster and make a band that will fit around your head. Staple it in place.

Next cut another strip of poster board about 20 inches long and make one end of it pointed. Attach the ends of this strip to the head band you created to form a bow over the top. Let the pointed end hang down a bit over the front edge of the band to create a nose guard- staple in place if you wish.

Add tin foil horns to either side of the helmet. Now cover the helmet skeleton with foil to finish your helmet.

Super Simple Squirrel

Today's Craft:
A Super Simple Squirrel
Do you like woodland creatures ? Are you captivated by squirrels, chipmunks, and the like. If you do you are sure to enjoy this simple animal craft project. You can make a super simple squirrel from a paper bag and a pinecone.


Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need a paper bag (lunch bag size), a pine cone, a piece of ribbon, brown construction paper, scissors, glue, tape, scrap papers, and crayons.


To begin, open the paper bag and stuff it most of the way full with old paper scraps. You could use an old newspaper.


Next fold over the opening of the bag so it becomes a flat rectangle and tape it shut. Make sure that this end is flat, otherwise your squirrel won't stand up straight.


Next take a piece of colorful ribbon and tie it tightly around the bag about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom. This will differentiate your squirrel's head from his body.


Tie the ribbon with a nice bow in the front. Now cut out 4 very simple squirrel arms and legs. You can cut just very basic shapes - small rectangles with curved ends. Tape or glue them onto the bottom and sides of the paper bag.


Next cut out two squirrel ears and tape or glue them onto the top of the squirrel's head.
Next take your pinecone and attach it to the back side of the paper bag to make a great tail for your squirrel! Tape or glue it in place.


Now decorate your squirrel's face, adding great facial features. When you are finished, place him some place special!

Sparkling Star Suncatcher

Today's Craft: Sparkling Star Suncatcher

Craft Project Directions:

To make this project you will need wax paper, colorful construction paper, an iron, scissors, crayons, glue, and a crayon sharpener.


Take two pieces of colored construction paper. Draw an star pattern using the template provided and cut it out of the construction paper so you have two identical star shapes. Cut out the center of the star shapes leaving about 3/4 inch border around the outside. This border will frame your star.


Now take the piece of wax paper and fold it in half. Using the shape pattern you already have draw an star shape which is about 1/2 inch larger all the way around. Seperate the wax paper star and cover one with crayon shavings.


Place the wax star half with the crayon on a towel and place the other wax star over it so the shapes match up and iron them together so the crayon melts.


Now take your star frame and attach one half to each side of the wax paper fish. Punch a hole in the top, add a piece of ribbon or string, and hang someplace special. Enjoy Crafting!

These cute teddy bears will hold your place in your book until you return!
Create all different kinds of teddy bears for your bookmark.


Craft Project Directions: To make this craft project you will need colored construction paper, a colorful pipe cleaner, scissors, crayons, and other materials to decorate your cute teddy bear bookmark.


To begin cut out a simple teddy bears using the picture provided as a guide or create teddy bear of your own using your imagination. You could also use the template at the address below.


Select a colorful pieces of construction paper and cut out the teddy bears. The color you choose will be the dominant color of your bears. You could also use a heavier weight piece of paper if you wish to make a more sturdy bookmark.


Decorate your teddy bears. Add facial features, clothes, and any else you want.


Next take a colorful pipe cleaner and thread the teddy bears through the pipe cleaner to create a cute bookmark. Alternately you could tape or glue the teddy bears along one side of the pipe cleaner. Let the bookmark dry.


Now use your teddy bear bookmark to hold your place as you read or give it to someone special.

Colorful Bottle Xylophone

Colorful Bottle Xylophone

Craft Project Directions:

To make this colorful xylophone you will need 6 or 8 glass jars or bottles, some food coloring, water, and a spoon.

Take your jars, line them up in a row, and fill each jar with a different amount of water in consecutive order. Add color to your instrument by adding drops of different food coloring to each jar.

Tap lightly on the side of each jar to test the sound- add or subtract water to change the sounds you can make. You can also add more bottles to create more notes.

Fabulous Frog Catching a Fly!

Today's Craft:
Fabulous Frog Catching a Fly!
Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need a paper cup, green tissue paper, tape, a red pipe cleaner, black construction paper, white paper, green construction paper scissors, glue, and crayons.
To begin, take your tissue paper and cut a long rectangular piece. Wrap this piece around your paper cup completely covering the outside. Tape or glue the tissue paper so it won't shift.
Flip your cup upside down and set aside. This will be your frog's body.
Next cut out some fabulous frog legs for your frog. You can use your own imagination or the templates provided at the address below. Cut out the frog legs from green construction paper- make sure you cut out four of them. Attach the large ones to the sides of your cup and the small ones to the front. Use the picture as a guide.
Also cut out a large and wide triangle for your frog's mouth. Tape or glue the mouth in the center of the frog. Cut some large frog eyes from the white paper and attach them to the front of the cup.
Next take your black construction paper and white paper and cut out a very simple black bug body and white bug wings. Assemble your bug and set it aside.
Next take your red pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Attach the bug to one end and attach the other end to the frog's mouth in its center. This will be your frog's tongue.
Twist the pipe cleaner so it looks like the bug is flying past your frog.Now decorate your frog further with crayons. Add more facial features and decorations- whatever you wish!

Lovely Log Rafts

Today's Craft: Lovely Log Rafts

Craft Project Directions:

You could make this craft using real twigs for logs or make logs out of paper. We'll provide directions using paper but feel free to improvise and use twigs so you can float your raft in water.


You will need brown construction paper, craft sticks, a piece of white paper, and tape. Take the brown construction paper and fold it in half and in half again. Unfold the paper and cut it along the folds.


Take the four pieces of paper and roll them into logs and tape them in place. Create as many logs as you want to use on your raft.


Improvise and make logs of different lengths if you wish. Bind the logs together with tape to create a raft. Insert a craft stick in the center pointing upwards for a mast. Lay logs on either side of it to help support it.


Next create a sail for your raft with a white piece of paper. Trim it so it is an appropriate rectangle size for your raft. Cut a horizontal slit at the top and the bottom of the sail about one inch from the edge and slip it over the craft stick. Bow out the paper so it looks like wind it catching your sail. Decorate as you wish.

Ladybug Paperweights

Today's Craft: Ladybug Paperweights!
Transform round rocks into delightful lady bugs with a little bit of paint and a soft felt bottom!
Craft Project Directions:
To create these delightful lady bug paper weights, you will need a round rock, white, red and black paint, a small piece of felt, glue, scissors, and a paintbrush. If you want to add additional features, you can also use pipe cleaners and small googly eyes.
To begin select your rock, it should be round and have a flat bottom surface. Clean the rock and let it dry. Next paint the top end of the rock black for the ladybug's head and the rest of the rock red. Let it dry and then add simple lines to make wings, black spots, and white lady bug eyes. Let your ladybug dry.
You could also glue googly eyes instead of painting eyes on your ladybug and attach short sections of black pipe cleaners with glue to make antennae.
When your ladybug is dry, cut out a small felt piece the size of the flat part of the rock's bottom and an glue it in place. This will keep your ladybug from scratching the surface you rest it on.

To make these delightful pussy willows you will need some colored construction paper, cottom swabs, glue and markers or crayons. Select a piece of colored construction paper and hold it so it is wider than it is tall. Draw vertical 'squiggly lines' on the paper to create your pussy willows. Lively Lambs Craft

Lively Lamb Craft


Craft Project Directions:

To make this craft project you will need a paper or stryofoam cup, cotton balls, black construction paper, glue, scissors, white paper, and crayons. To begin, cut out a very basic lamb's head from your black construction paper. Use the picture as a guide. Next cut out a narrow black construction paper strip about three inches long. Tape it to the back of the lamb's head you just cut out. Now take your cup and flip it over. Tape the other end of the black construction paper strip (the one that isn't attached to the lamb's head)to the top of the cup. Now cut out some very simple and small rectangle strips from the black construction paper. Tape or glue these strips so they stick out from under the paper cup and look like little lamb's feet. Use the picture as a guide. Now you are ready to decorate your lively little lamb! Cover your cup with glue and stick on fluffy white cotton balls. Add eyes and any other features to the head, and anything else you want. Let your lamb dry and place him someplace special. Enjoy Crafting!
